Learn football fundamentals and embrace team work
Games will begin in December 2024. More details released when registration opens.
Flag Football is an enjoyable sport for both boys and girls to play, and very exciting for parents to watch! The YAP Flag Football program is designed for your child to have fun, learn football fundamentals, and develop teamwork skills in a safe environment. Football will help your child develop quick decision making skills, follow directions and build their confidence. The success of our season will be determined by your child's improvement in these areas alone, and not by the number of wins or losses.
-
- The YAP Cheerleading program will run concurrent with Flag Football.
- Important dates for both football and cheer include:
- Registration will open late October 2024.
- First game scheduled for December 2024
- Last Game scheduled for February 2025.
- Practice Format
In addition to games, each football team may have one practice per week for 1 hour in duration. For Flag Football, each coach will schedule practice days/times based on their personal and/or field availability following the draft. Practice schedules are communicated to respective teams, only after teams are identified, but before the first game. - Practice Locations
We are offering practices at St. Lawrence.
Some coaches may have access to other fields locations. - Practice Times
Practice schedules are determined upon the volunteer coaches personal availability.
Please understand that requested or preferred practice times cannot always be accommodated which is why it's important to identify any days of the week that your child cannot attend practice. - Flag Football Team Assignments (Player Draft)
The coaches will hold a player draft after registration closes to assign players to teams. Pre-existing teams will not be preserved. Parents will be contacted following the draft by their coach, with team specific details (practice times, game schedule, uniform info, etc.). If you do not hear from the volunteer coach within one week of the draft, please contact tampayapboard@gmail.com - Games: Teams will be scheduled for one game per week, every Saturday, beginning December 2024. Times TBD. Football games times will vary according to your child's age group and schedule, and will be 50 minutes in duration. All games will be held at St. Lawrence.
- Experience: Previous experience is not necessary. Football practices will include basic skills, teamwork drills, and game strategy. Parents are encouraged to work with their children on passing, running and moves learned at practice. Cheer squads will focus on synchronized movement, dance routines, light tumbling and pyramid basics. Parents are encouraged to work with their children to help them memorize dance routines, to improve balance and flexibility.
- Coaching: We highly encourage all parents to volunteer to coach and/or assistant coach their child’s team. It is a great way to experience what YAP is about, and earn points along the way! No experience is required to coach.
