Come join the fun with YAP Flag Football and Cheer! The YAP program is designed for children in grades EC-4 through 8th grade to enjoy sports in a safe and encouraging environment, while learning fundamentals and developing teamwork skills. Regardless of experience or skill level, YAP is the perfect way to help kids foster a love of all sports! Open to children from all schools.

Important Information for both football and cheer:

  • Initial Registration closes November 17th. 
  • First game scheduled forDecember 7th 
  • Registration fee is $105 per sport.
  • Registrations after November 17th subject to $35 late fee, so please register early.
  • Late registrations may not be accommodated after November 20th
  • Player Draftscheduled for Thursday November 21st

Coaches Needed
Help make this season a success by volunteering to be a head or assistant coach. (And for STL families, earn valuable service points at the same time.) No previous coaching experience needed. Player draft can not be held until there are enough coaches for each division, so please consider signing up to coach.

Schedule

  • Games will be held on Saturdaysbeginning December 7th. Exact football game times will vary according to your child's age group and team schedule, and will be 50 minutes in duration.  All teams will be co-ed. All games will be held at St. Lawrence, starting at 9am.
    • Game 1:  December 7th
    • Game 2:  December 14th
    • Game 3:  December 21st
    • Game 4:  January 11th
    • Game 5:  January 18th
    • Game 6:  January 25th
    • Game 7:  February 1st
    • Game 8: February 8th
  • Cheerleading will perform in-between the first and second football games each week.

Practice 

  • Each team or cheer squad will practice once a week for one hour. For Flag Football, coaches will schedule practice day/time based on their personal and/or field availability following the draft.  Practice schedules are communicated once respective teams are finalized.
  • Please understand that requested or preferredpractice times cannot always be accommodated, which is why it's important to indicate in the registration form which days of the week your child cannot attend practice.
  • Football practices will include basic skills, teamwork drills, and game strategy. Parents are encouraged to work with their children on passing, running and moves learned at practice.
  • Cheer squads will focus on synchronized movement, dance routines, light tumbling and pyramid basics.  Parents are encouraged to work with their children to help them memorize dance routines, to improve balance and flexibility.

Team Assignments (Player Draft)

  • Coaches will hold a player draft in late November to assign players to teams.  Pre-existing teams will not be preserved. Parents will be contacted following the draft by their coach, with team specific details (practice times, game schedule, uniform info, etc.).

Uniforms

  • Football: Jersey (provided by YAP); Black shorts (supplied by player)
  • Cheer: Uniform (provided by YAP); White socks and shoes (supplied by player)

Age Groups

  • U6 (Grades EC-4 & K): Co-ed, 8 to 9 players per team.
  • U8 (Grades 1st & 2nd): Co-ed, 8 to 9 players per team.
  • U10 (Grades 3rd & 4th): Co-ed, 8 to 9 players per team.
  • U12 (Grades 5th & 6th): Co-ed, 8 to 9 players per team.
  • U14 (Grades 7th & 8th): Co-ed, 8 to 9 players per team.
