Winter Basketball

The YAP Basketball program is designed for children in Grades 1- 8 to have fun learning the fundamentals of basketball, in a safe and encouraging environment. Drive teamwork, enhance confidence, and build leadership skills. No previous basketball experience required.
Whether you're looking to introduce your child to the game of basketball for the first time, or build their skills from previous experience, this is the place to do it!

• Registration: Important Dates
  • Registration will open in December 2024
  • First basketball game is scheduled for February 2025. Schedule TBD
    All Basketball Games will be played on Sundays, between 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, in St. Lawrence gym.
• Calendar
  The YAP Basketball program will have 8 total games, and will begin with the first game scheduled in February 2025. Game times will vary according to your child's age group and schedule, and games will be approximately 50 minutes in length. There are no playoff games.
• Team Placement
  Once player registration is completed, coaches hold a player draft in late January to choose players and organize co-ed teams. The draft determines how players are assigned to respective teams. Pre-existing teams will not be preserved.  No guarantee of placement accommodations on requested teams, though every effort will be made to do so. Parents should expect to be contacted by respective coaches by early February.
• Practices
  Your coach will determine the team's practice day/time and then notify team members after teams assigned.  Practice times will be based on court and coaches availability. In the registration, please indicate which days do NOT work for your child, and every effort will be made to accommodate.
• Experience
  Previous experience is not necessary. Practices will include basic skills, teamwork drills, and game strategy. Parents are encouraged to work with their children on dribbling, running and techniques learned at practice.
• Teams
  Each co-ed team will have approximately 6 to 7 players, and all will have equal playing time.
• Coaching
  We highly encourage and need parents to volunteer to coach and/or assistant coach their child’s team. It is a great way to learn firsthand what YAP is about and earn service points along the way! (Head coaches = 15 service points; Assistant coaches = 10 service points.) No previous coaching experience is required.
